2014 Lupus Hero Award
Our Lupus Hero Award is presented annually to individuals who enhance the lives of lupus patients and the lupus community.

LFA-DMV is honoring Ted Davies as our 2014 Lupus Hero at our 6th Annual Purple Passion Gala Luncheon and Auction.  This dedicated leader joined our Board of Directors six years ago.  Lupus is a personal cause; he knew first-hand the devastation of lupus, the cruel mystery through his wife Lorell’s struggle with the disease.  Ted turned that cause into a mission to have LFA-DMV help the 80,000 people in our region who are suffering from the damaging effects of lupus.  He joined the Board determined to see this organization grow and thrive, and six years later that once tiny organization has grown five-fold in resources.  But it is more important to Ted that we have also grown exponentially in our free services, reaching out to an ever-expanding number of people and their families.  Today we reach 15,000 weekly – fifty times the number we once reached annually.

We hope that you will join us in honoring him at this event and/or make a gift in his honor.  The Gala supports our Lupus Patient Navigation Program, which is a ground breaking pioneering effort.  Ted was an initial champion of this program because he knew personally that it is the best way for LFA-DMV to reach those suffering from lupus with individualized guidance and emergency relief.  That mission-critical program has now won national awards for the innovations it brings in lupus patient service, setting a model for others to follow.  It provides patients one-on-one interaction with navigators trained to help with the overwhelming burden of navigating the complexities of our healthcare system while suffering from this devastating and debilitating illness for which there is no cure.  This year over 2,000 people will benefit from this individualized navigation.
